E. Gayathri

Echampati Gayathri, also known as "Veena Gayathri", was born on November 9, 1959 in Andhra Pradesh, India. She is veena player who plays in the traditional Carnatic music style. She began her musical career at age nine when she performed at the Saint Thyagaraja Festival in 1968. Gayathri has released several albums, including An Evening With Gayathri (1973), and received numerous awards such as the Kalaimamani Tamil Nadu State Award in 1984 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2002. She was appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts University in November 2013.
