John Stetch, born in 1966 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, is a pianist known for his contributions to jazz. He received clarinet lessons from his father and was introduced to jazz through his uncle's involvement with the Yardbird Suite jazz club. Initially playing saxophone, he switched to piano during his college years. Stetch began performing in Ukrainian communities and later toured Canada after completing his studies in Montreal. His early albums earned Juno Award nominations. In 1993, he moved to New York City, where he worked as a sideman with notable musicians like Rufus Reid and Akira Tana. His debut album Carpathian Blues (1994) showcased Chick Corea's stylistic influence on his music. Stetch won the Prix du Jazz at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal in 1998 and released several albums under the Justin Time label, including Heavens of a Hundred Days (2000) and Exponentially Monk (2003).
