Chandeen is a German electronic music group from Frankfurt am Main that formed in 1990. The ensemble was founded by the musicians Harald Löwy and Oliver Henkel and is famous for its origins in the dark-wave scene and for its transition to a pop-oriented sound influenced by rock and trip-hop. They achieved professional recognition in the early 1990s after signing with Hyperium Records and releasing the studio recordings Shaded by the Leaves (1994) and Jutland (1995). Following lineup changes that saw Henkel and the vocalist Catrin Mallon form the project Edera, Stephanie Härich joined as the lead singer for the EP Light Within Time (1995). Their discography includes the studio recordings The Waking Dream (1996) and Bikes and Pyramids (2002), and the single “Spacerider – Love at First Sight” (1998). After a hiatus, Löwy reactivated the project in 2007 with the vocalist Julia Beyer, releasing studio recordings including Teenage Poetry (2008), Forever and Ever (2014), and Mercury Retrograde (2020). Their track “Skywalking” (1999) was nominated for six German Video Music Awards.
