Gitane DeMone is an American singer, musician, and visual artist born on 16 May 1958 in San Francisco. She achieved professional recognition in 1981 co-founding the ensemble Pompeii 99 with Valor Kand, releasing the studio recording Look at Yourself (1981). In 1983, the group merged with Christian Death, and DeMone contributed as keyboardist and backing vocalist to the studio recordings Catastrophe Ballet (1984), Ashes (1985), and Atrocities (1986). After departing the group in 1989, she established a solo career in Amsterdam. Her recording career includes the track “A Heavenly Melancholy” (1992) and the extended play Lullabies for a Troubled World (1993). She issued the live recordings Love for Sale (1993) and With Love & Dementia (Live in Cannes 1994) (1995). Her discography includes the collaborative studio recording Dream Home Heartache (1995) with Rozz Williams and the solo recordings Am I Wrong? (1998) and Stars of Trash (1999). DeMone records and performs with the Gitane DeMone Quartet, releasing the studio recordings Past the Sun (2015) and Substrata Strip (2018).
