Jorge Cumbo, born on December 15, 1942, in La Plata, Argentina, was a quenista and singer known for his contributions to the folk music of Argentina and Latin America. He began his career as the first director of the Quinteto Vocal Tiempo, leading to early releases such as La Raíz de Tu Grito/Te recuerdo Amanda (1970). Cumbo's collaborations were extensive; he joined the group Los Incas/Urubamba with Paul Simon and contributed to the global spread of "El cóndor pasa". He also led the Trío Cumbo, Dúo Juárez-Cumbo, Dúo Cumbo-Masliah, and the trio Cumbo-Vitale-González. In 1984, he released the album Cumbo-Vitale-González with Lito Vitale and Lucho González. Cumbo received a Diploma al Mérito from the Premios Konex in 1995 as one of the five best folklore instrumentists of the decade in Argentina. He passed away on October 28, 2021.
