Tapani Rinne (born February 2, 1962) is a Finnish jazz and ambient saxophonist, composer, record producer, and sound designer from Pori. Rinne studied at the Sibelius Academy (1981–1986) and performed with Edward Vesala’s Sound & Fury and Raoul Björkenheim’s Krakatau before establishing the electro jazz group RinneRadio in 1988. Rinne began a solo career with the album Insider (1999). Subsequent solo releases include Nectic (2002), Silent Night (2005), Radioton (2019), Foghornia (2020), and Grey (2023). Rinne collaborated with Sámi yoik singer Wimme Saari on the albums Soabbi (2013) and Human (2017). Rinne also formed the downtempo project SlowHill, releasing the album Finndisc in 2002. Rinne received the Georgie (Yrjö) Award in 1992 and the Teosto Prize in 2011 for his work on Saari’s album Mun. Rinne provided music for the film Koti-ikävä (2005), receiving a Jussi Award nomination.
