Gene Campbell was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist of the Texas Blues. His career began with a recording session in Dallas in November 1929, where he released "Mama You Don't Mean me No Good No How" and "Bended Knee Blues" for Brunswick Records. In May 1930, Campbell recorded ten more songs in Chicago, including "Freight Train Yodeling Blues" and "Robbin' and Steamin' Blues". His final recording session took place in January 1931, where he released eight additional tracks, notably "Main Papa’s Blues". His music was praised for its songwriting quality and his guitar phrasing, which drew comparisons to Lonnie Johnson. His complete recorded works from 1929 to 1931 were compiled in the album Complete Recorded Works in Chronological Order, 1929 - 1931, released by Document Records in 1993.
