Alida Kinnie Starr, known professionally as Kinnie Starr, and born in 1970, is a Canadian multidisciplinary singer and rapper from Calgary, Alberta. Starr's sound has been described as "hip hop aggro groove." She formed her first band after moving to Vancouver in 1992. Her breakthrough came during a spoken-word poetry performance at an East Village club's open-mic night in New York City. Starr released her debut album Tidy... in 1996, blending rock, punk, pop, and hip-hop with spoken-word poetry. She signed to Island/Def Jam in 1997 but was later released from her contract due to corporate restructuring. Starr performed with Cirque du Soleil in their production Zumanity for two years starting in 2003. She was nominated for the Juno Award for New Artist of the Year in 2004. Her subsequent albums include Sun Again (2003), Anything (2006), and A Different Day (2010). In 2018, she released the album Feed the Fire.
