Shashank Subramanyam, born on October 14, 1978 in Rudrapatna, India, is a bamboo flute player. Introduced to Carnatic music by his father at an early age, Shashank gave his first concert at six. In 1990, he embarked on his first international tour to Australia and performed at the Music Academy in Chennai in 1991. In 2008, he collaborated with John McLaughlin on the album Floating Point, which received a Grammy nomination in 2009. He has also collaborated with artists like Paco de Lucia and Zakir Hussain. Subramanyam's notable awards include the Kalaimamani award from Tamil Nadu in 2001, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award from India in 2017, and the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from France in 2022.
