Fonzie, a Portuguese pop rock band formed in 1996 in Lisbon, consisted of vocalist and guitarist Hugo Maia, guitarist David Marques, bassist Carlos Teixeira, and drummer João Marques. The group released their first promotional recording, Bring Me Up, which led to a contract with Ataque Sonoro for their debut studio album, The Melo Pot, released in 1998. Fonzie gained international recognition with their second album, Built To Rock (2002), produced by Pelle Saether and featuring collaborations with Janson of Fun At All. The album included notable singles such as "Rock My Heart (Always)" and was followed by extensive tours across Europe, the United States, Japan, Australia, and South America. Fonzie were nominated for Best Portuguese Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2003 and 2007.
