Joshua Gilmore Jr., known professionally as Joey Gilmore, was born on June 4, 1944, in Ocala, Florida. He was a self-taught guitarist who initially led a band of youths performing in local clubs. In the 1960s, Gilmore relocated to South Florida and became a popular local attraction. His first single "Somebody Done Took My Baby And Gone" / "Do It To Me One More Time" was released in 1971. He began recording more frequently in the mid-1990s, releasing albums such as Can't Kill Nothin' (1993), and Bluesman (2008). Gilmore won the 'Best Band' section at the Blues Foundation's International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 2006. His album So Good to be Bad (1989) reached Number 80 on the US Billboard R&B album chart. Gilmore died in Florida on July 29, 2024, at the age of 80.
