Amy Allison, an American country singer-songwriter, was raised on Long Island, New York. She began her musical journey as a child, influenced by artists like Billie Holiday and Loretta Lynn. Allison first gained attention as the frontwoman of Amy Allison and the Maudlins, performing in New York City's East Village. In 1994, she formed the duo Parlor James with Ryan Hedgecock before embarking on a solo career in 1996. Her debut album, The Maudlin Years, was released that year on Koch Records and later ranked as one of Elvis Costello's "500 essential albums" in Vanity Fair. Allison followed up with Sad Girl (2001), No Frills Friend (2003), Sheffield Streets (2009). She collaborated on the duet album Turn Like the World Does with David Scott in 2012, and Pop Tunes and the Setting Sun, was released in 2021.
