John Bruce Yeh, born 1957 in Washington D.C., is an American classical clarinetist of Chinese descent. Yeh studied at the University of California, Los Angeles, before graduating from the Juilliard School in 1980. In 1977, Georg Solti hired Yeh as a clarinetist for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He was appointed assistant principal and E-flat clarinetist in 1979. Yeh founded the chamber ensemble Chicago Pro Musica in 1979. The group’s recording of the piece “L'Histoire du soldat” received the 1985 Grammy Award for Best New Classical Artist. Yeh performed the work “Dialogue de l'ombre double” by Pierre Boulez with Howard Sandroff. His discography includes the albums Hindemith: Clarinet Chamber Music and Dialogues With My Shadow. With Teresa Reilly and Molly Yeh, he recorded the album Synergy. Yeh co-founded the quartet INVENTIONS and received the Frank Sinatra Musical Performance Award.
