Nova Social, an electronic pop duo from New York and New Jersey, was formed by David Nagler and Thom Soriano. The group released their first full-length album The Jefferson Fracture in 2002, followed by their debut EP Nova Social in 2009 on Big Sleep Records. Their second full-length album, Other Words from Tomorrow's Dictionary, was released in 2007. In addition to their own releases, Nova Social recorded the theme song for Cartoon Network’s Calling Cat-22. Nagler also contributed arrangements and production for Chicago singer/songwriter Chris Mills and choral arrangements for the Mekons' Jon Langford, while Soriano, under the alias the Kendal Mintcake, recorded electronic compositions and remixed tracks for artists including They Might Be Giants and Dan Bryk.
