Katunga, an Argentinian rock band formed in the 1970s in Villa Pueyrredón, Buenos Aires, consisted of Alberto Chamorro on drums, Rubén Alonzo on bass, Diego Chamorro as lead vocalist, Norberto Casaglis on keyboards, and Efrén Rodríguez on percussion. The group's breakthrough came with their early singles, "Mi cama" and "Marijuana ay ay", released under Polygram. Their debut album, Veo Veo ... Que Ves, was released in the early 1970s and includes the title track. This song became a massive success, selling over one million copies and earning gold certifications in multiple countries, including Mexico, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and Colombia. In 1972, Katunga relocated to Spain for a year, releasing an album with songs in English, Italian, and Spanish. Returning to Argentina in 1974, they released hits like "Mirá para arriba, mirá para abajo" and "Por una negrita", which led to extensive tours across South America.
