Stewy von Wattenwyl, a Swiss jazz pianist, was born on December 25, 1962 in Bern. He began classical piano lessons at age eight and studied for ten years at the Konservatorium Bern. While pursuing a degree in history at the University of Bern, von Wattenwyl played in various jazz bands and received training from Silvano Bazan and Joe Haider before graduating from the Swiss Jazz School in 1998. He founded his trio in 1990 and released his debut album Dienda in 2005. Von Wattenwyl has collaborated with notable musicians such as Eric Alexander and Art Farmer, performing at international festivals across Europe and North America. He began teaching at the Swiss Jazz School in 1999, serving as director in 2011. He received the Swiss Jazz Award in 2014 with Nicole Herzog and his band.
