Ramón Márquez Carrillo, born on March 29, 1914, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, was a composer and musician. He studied composition, piano, trumpet, and trombone at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Mexico City, later completing courses in orchestra direction and instrumentation at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Márquez Carrillo began his career as a musician with the Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM in 1934 and directed several military bands, presenting his early compositions. He formed his own orchestra, recording over 80 LPs and 300 singles. He also popularized merequetengue and developed several methods of musical instruction. Márquez Carrillo passed away on May 22, 1997.
