Kit Downes, born on May 26, 1986, in Norwich, is a British jazz pianist. He studied piano, organ, and composition at the Purcell School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. Downes' early career included performances with bands like Empirical and collaborations with artists such as Lee Konitz and Django Bates. His debut album Homely, with Tom Cawley, was released in 2009. He has toured extensively with his own bands, ENEMY and Troyka, and other artists, including Squarepusher and Thomas Strønen. Downes received the BBC Jazz Award in 2008 as a Rising Star and was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize in 2010. He has taught piano and composition at the Royal Academy of Music, where he was awarded a Fellowship in 2019.
