Ren Yueli, known professionally as Xidan Girl, was born on April 13, 1988, in Zhuozhou, Hebei, China. She began her musical journey as a street musician after moving to Beijing at the age of 16. Her breakthrough moment came in December 2008 when a video of her performing "Tianshi de Chibang" ("Angel's Wings") in Xidan subway station went viral online, earning her the nickname "Xidan Girl." This exposure led to television appearances and eventually a record deal with Beijing New Run Entertainment Co., Ltd. in April 2010. In 2011, Ren Yueli performed at CCTV New Year's Gala, one of China's most-watched annual events. Her life story was dramatized in the 2011 film Xidan Girl. She released her debut album 西单女孩 (Xidan Girl) in 2012.
