Athletics, an American post‑rock band formed in 2010 in Asbury Park, New Jersey, emerged from the collaborative efforts of Jimmy Boyce, John Cannon, Howie Cohen, Zachary West, and Garrett Yaeger. The group’s first breakthrough came with the release of their debut album Why Aren’t I Home? on Deep Elm Records on October 22, 2010, establishing their blend of electronic and rock textures. In 2012, they self‑released the EP Stop Torturing Yourself and the full‑length Who You Are Is Not Enough, which was later re‑issued by Deep Elm in 2014 after being mixed by Gregory Dunn of Moving Mountains. The band gained broader recognition when Alternative Press listed them among the “100 Bands You Need To Know” in 2015. Their 2016 EP When To Run, Where To Hide continued to showcase their evolving sound. Athletics remained active through 2025, when Deep Elm released the album What Makes You Think This Is How It All Ends?, solidifying their place within the contemporary post‑rock scene.
