Hithouse se creó en los Países Bajos a finales de la década de 1980 como proyecto de estudio del productor holandés Peter Slaghuis. Peter Slaghuis nació el 21 de agosto de 1961 en Rijswijk (Países Bajos). Al principio trabajó como DJ y productor en la escena dance europea. Bajo el nombre de Hithouse, desarrolló un estilo entre el acid house, el house y la música de club europea. Se trata de uno de los primeros grupos europeos de house con éxito en las listas internacionales. En 1988, Hithouse lanzó el sencillo "Jack to the Sound of the Underground". El tema se convirtió en un éxito de club en toda Europa y alcanzó el número 6 en las listas de singles británicas, entre otros lugares. El uso de samples y estructuras house minimalistas fue especialmente influyente. Poco después le siguió "Move Your Feet to the Rhythm of the Beat". Este sencillo también alcanzó las listas internacionales de baile. Con "Everybody House the House", Hithouse cosechó nuevos éxitos en clubes y programas de radio europeos. En 1989 se publica el álbum Hithouse, con varios de los temas de club más conocidos del grupo. Ese mismo año le sigue Jack to the Sound of the Underground, otro proyecto discográfico. Las producciones combinan influencias del house de Chicago con la estética dance-pop europea. Peter Slaghuis fallece en un accidente de coche cerca de La Haya (Países Bajos) el 5 de septiembre de 1991.
