Rob Base y DJ E-Z Rock fueron un dúo de hip-hop de la Costa Este de Harlem, Nueva York. Rob Base (nacido Robert Ginyard) y DJ E-Z Rock (nacido Rodney "Skip" Bryce) formaron el grupo a mediados de la década de 1980. Su primer sencillo en EE.UU., "DJ Interview", , levantó expectación y les llevó a firmar un contrato discográfico con Profile Records en 1987. El dúo saltó a la fama con su éxito de 1988 "It Takes Two", que sampleaba la canción de James Brown y Lyn Collins "Think (About It)". El tema se convirtió en un éxito regional antes de escalar posiciones en la lista Billboard Hot 100 y obtener la certificación multiplatino de la RIAA. El álbum de debut del grupo, It Takes Two, se publicó en agosto de 1988 y también obtuvo la categoría de platino.
