Guitarrista e intérprete folk nacida en Nueva York el 2 de octubre de 1967, Gillian Welch capta el espíritu del bluegrass, el folk y el country y le da vida en sus composiciones. Acompañada por Dave Rawlings, su álbum de debut Revival (1996) fue producido por T-Bone Burnett. Su participación en la banda sonora de la película O Brother, Where Art Thou? en 2000 y en álbumes de homenaje a Dwight Yoakam y Gram Parsons reforzaron la reputación de esta niña mimada de la crítica. En 2001, el álbum Time (The Revelator), nominado a los Grammy, se convirtió en un clásico instantáneo.
