La cantante y compositora de R&B y pop Sybil -nacida el 9 de diciembre de 1966 en Peterson, Nueva Jersey- es conocida sobre todo por una serie de éxitos y álbumes de finales de los ochenta y principios de los noventa. En 1986 fichó por la entonces popular discográfica Next Plateau Records y no tardó en lanzar su primer sencillo, "Falling in Love", que alcanzó el número 29 en la lista de singles de R&B de Billboard. Su álbum de debut, Let Yourself Go, se publicó en 1987 y se situó en el Top 100 en el Reino Unido. La canción que da título al álbum alcanzó el Top 50 en la lista de R&B de Estados Unidos. Su segundo álbum, Sybil (1989), incluyó versiones de "Don't Make Me Over" y "Walk On By " de Dionne Warwick, que fueron éxitos internacionales. El álbum alcanzó el número 12 en la lista Billboard R&B Albums, su posición más alta en la lista de álbumes. El álbum fue retitulado Walk On By para su lanzamiento en el Reino Unido. Parecía que su carrera iba en ascenso, pero el lanzamiento de su tercer álbum, Sybilization (1990), no tuvo el éxito previsto. Tras una pausa de tres años, su álbum de 1993 Doin' It Now! contiene el éxito número 3 en el Reino Unido "The Love I Lost". Dos meses después de la publicación de Doin' It Now ! salió a la venta en Europa el álbum Good 'n' Ready.
