Moti Special es una banda multinacional de synth-pop fundada en Hamburgo en 1981. Los miembros fundadores son Manfred «Tissy» Thiers (cantante y bajista), Michael Cretu (teclista), Reinhard «Dicky» Tarrach (baterista) y el danés Nils Tuxen (guitarrista). El nombre proviene de un plato indio muy picante que el cantante Manfred «Tissy» Thiers probó en un restaurante londinense. Aunque la banda se formó ya en 1981, el éxito comercial no llegó hasta mediados de la década de 1980. Sus mayores éxitos son las canciones «Cold Days, Hot Nights» y «Don’t Be So Shy», que en 1985 se convirtieron en éxitos del top 10 en Alemania. En consonancia con ello, en 1985 sale a la venta su primer álbum, Motivation. Se produce en los estudios Data Alpha de Múnich y alcanza el puesto 20 en las listas de álbumes alemanas y el 11 en las suizas. Los productores son Michael Cretu y Armand Volker. En 1989 sale a la venta un segundo álbum, Dancing for Victory. Dicky Tarrach y Nils Tuxen colaboran aquí con el nuevo bajista Anders Mossberg y el nuevo cantante y teclista Frank Ådahl. Sin embargo, no se logra el éxito comercial. Michael Cretu y Manfred «Tissy» Thiers fundan más tarde el proyecto Cretu & Thiers y desde entonces ya no actúan bajo el nombre de Moti Special.
