Nacidos en plena era del grunge, Sevendust saltaron a la fama gracias al boca a boca, llevando su álbum de debut de la publicación confidencial a la categoría de disco de oro, gracias en gran parte a la energía desplegada en el escenario por sus miembros Lajon Witherspoon (voz), John Connolly, Clint Lowery (guitarras), Vince Hornsby (bajo) y Morgan Rose (batería). Procedentes de Atlanta, Georgia, donde se formaron en 1994, la banda de metal alternativo, firmada por TVT Records, participó en varios festivales tras su álbum de debut Sevendust (1997) y produjo el vídeo Live and Loud (1998), antes de alcanzar el número 19 en el Billboard 200 con Home (1999), que contó con la colaboración del cantante Skin (Skunk Anansie) y Chino Moreno (Deftones). Tras aparecer en el Festival de Woodstock de 1999, grabó 'Fall ' para la banda sonora de la película Scream 3, y a continuación publicó Animosity (nº 28 en 2001), Seasons (nº 14 en 2003), Next (nº 20 en 2005) y Alpha (nº 14 en 2007), una retahíla de éxitos en las listas Billboard Mainstream Rock. En 2008, una de ellas, 'The Past', del álbum Chapter VII: Hope & Sorrow (nº 19), contó con la participación de Chris Daughtry, vocalista de la banda homónima. Tras la etapa interina de Sonny Mayo (2005-2008), el guitarrista Clint Lowery participó en la grabación de Cold Day Memory (2010), que alcanzó el nº 12. La popularidad de Sevendust no ha cesado con álbumes como Black Out the Sun (2013), que alcanzó el nº 18 en el Billboard 200 y el nº 1 en las listas de hard rock, y Times, Travelers & Bonfires (nº 19 en 2014). De Kill the Flaw (2015), que se situó en el nº 13, el tema 'Thank You ' fue nominado al premio Grammy a la mejor interpretación de metal. A los siguientes álbumes All I See Is War (n.º 28 en 2018) y Blood & Stone (n.º 55 en 2020) les siguió Truth Killer en 2023.
