A finales de los años 80, esta banda escocesa formada por Eugene Kelly y Frances McKee propuso un retorno a las raíces del rock, que consideraban decididamente alternativo. La existencia de The Vaselines fue efímera, pero su influencia duradera quedó establecida por el recopilatorio The Way of The Vaselines (1992), que reunía sus dos EP y su primer álbum, Dum-Dum (1989). El renovado interés generado por el fan Kurt Cobain volvió a despertar el ardor del dúo, que reactivó su discografía con los álbumes Sex With An X en 2010 y V for Vaselines en 2014.
