Laurent Couson is a French composer, pianist, and conductor. He began his musical education at a young age, earning top prizes at the Conservatoire de Tours and later at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris and École Normale de Paris. He began his career at Radio France, where he received his first commissions and conducted his compositions. Couson served as musical director for the Orchestre et Chœur des Trois Cultures in Seville and Rabat. He was also assistant conductor to Marc Minkowski with the Musiciens du Louvre. In 2015, he became musical director of the South Asia Symphonic Orchestra and Bangkok Chamber Orchestra, founding South Asia Music Production, a global production company with its symphonic recording studio.
As a conductor, Couson has led orchestras around the world including the Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre de l'Opéra de Paris, and Orchestre Symphonique de Budapest. He has composed music for over 30 films, working with directors such as Claude Lelouch, Luc Besson, and Xavier Palud. In addition to his film work, Couson has collaborated with numerous jazz and French pop musicians including Charles Aznavour, Didier Lockwood, and Francis Lai. He has also appeared as an actor in several films by Claude Lelouch.
