Originarios de Bellshill (Escocia), los Soup Dragons desarrollaron su sonido de rock alternativo a mediados de los ochenta y principios de los noventa, experimentando con todo tipo de estilos, desde el punk-pop hasta la música de baile con influencias de Manchester.
