Ya detrás del fenómeno Psy en 2012, el sello coreano YG Entertainment consiguió llevar al éxito internacional el K-pop del cuarteto femenino 2NE1 con "I Am the Best " en 2014. Formado en 2009 bajo el impulso de la discográfica por CL, Bom, Dara y Minzy, 2NE1 cosechó un gran éxito en Asia en 2010 con el álbum To Anyone. La sofisticación de su estilo urbano y asiático les abrió las puertas de las listas mundiales en 2014 con Crush. Aunque el álbum sedujo a Estados Unidos, convirtiéndose en el primer disco de K-pop en penetrar en el Billboard 200 (en el número 61), fue la canción "I Am the Best" la que les valió un puesto en las listas francesas. La trayectoria del grupo se frenó en seco en 2016, cuando Minzy abandonó la aventura. Los demás miembros anunciaron inmediatamente su separación. El último single, 'Goodbye ', se publicó en 2017. Cinco años después, 2NE1 se reunió para una actuación única en Coachella.
