Banda estadounidense de Filadelfia formada en 1965, The Delfonics fueron pioneros del "Philly Soul" y consiguieron su mayor éxito desde el principio con el tema "La La Means I Love You". Originalmente un trío vocal llamado The Orphonics y liderado por William "Poogie" Hart, incluía también a su hermano Wilbert Hart y a Randy Cain cuando conoció al productor Thom Bell, que lo grabó con el nombre de The Delfonics. Se publicaron dos sencillos antes del primer éxito del grupo, "La La Means I Love You", que alcanzó el nº 4 en las listas de R&B y el nº 4 en la lista Billboard de pop en 1968. Randy Cain se marchó para formar Blue Magic y fue sustituido en 1971 por Major Harris, que emprendió una carrera en solitario tres años más tarde. Cuando se separaron en 1975, The Delfonics habían acumulado 20 éxitos en las listas Billboard R&B, 18 éxitos en las listas pop y habían ganado un premio Grammy en 1971.
