Frances Nero, nacida Willie Frances Peak el 13 de marzo de 1943 en Asheville (Carolina del Norte), fue una cantante estadounidense conocida por su contribución a la música soul y R&B contemporánea. Empezó a cantar muy joven en grupos locales y en la radio. En 1960 se casó con Johnny Nero y se trasladó a Detroit, donde interpretó piezas de jazz en clubes nocturnos. Su gran éxito llegó en junio de 1965, cuando ganó un concurso de talentos con "Everybody Loves a Lover " en la radio WCHB, lo que le valió un contrato con Soul Records de Motown. Su primer sencillo, "Keep On Lovin' Me", salió a la venta en marzo de 1966, pero no grabó ningún disco más durante su estancia de tres años en Motown. A finales de la década de 1980, el productor británico Ian Levine redescubrió a Nero y la fichó para Motorcity Records. Su sencillo de regreso , "Footsteps Following Me", alcanzó el número 17 en la lista de singles del Reino Unido en abril de 1991. Este éxito dio lugar a dos álbumes con Motorcity Records: Out on the Floor (1990) y Footsteps Following Me (1991). Nero también lanzó varios singles, entre ellos "Making My Daydream Real" y "Love Ride". En 2006 publicó su audiobiografía Mountains, Motown & Motion Pictures. Nero falleció el 29 de noviembre de 2014 en Detroit.
