English pop singer Tom Grennan
was born in Bedford on June 8, 1995. He started out with aspirations to play
professional football. He was talented enough to be selected to play for Luton
Town and at one stage attracted interest from Aston Villa. Football's loss became
the music industry's gain when Grennan turned his back on the game after being
encouraged by friends to pursue a career in music. He began by playing acoustic
sets in small pubs and bars around London and was discovered by Insanity
Records and offered a deal. After releasing his debut EP he got a break when he
was asked to feature on the single “All Goes Wrong” recorded by drum
& bass duo Chase and Status. Although the song only reached number 65 on
the UK charts, it was championed by Annie Mack's influential BBC Radio 1 show
and offers came in to appear on both Jools Holland's music show on UK TV and an
an MTV showcase. Grennan's debut album, 2018’s Lighting Matches, captured
his particular blend of electronic inflected indie pop. His 2021 follow-up, Evering
Road, topped the UK album chart and spun off a pair of hits including “Little
Bit of Love”, which hit number 10, giving him his best charting single to
that point in his career.
