Eskimos & Egypt was formed in Manchester, England, by David Cameron‑Pride and Christopher O’Hare, with Paul Cundall on keyboards, Mark Compton on guitar, and Nigel Heywood on drums; the group emerged in the late 1980s as a crossover act blending electronic and metal elements. Their breakthrough came with the 1987 single "The Cold" released on Village Records, which gained airplay on John Peel’s BBC Radio 1 program and attracted DEF Management, who guided the band through the early 1990s. In 1993 the group issued their debut album Perfect Disease, followed in 1996 by The Rest Is Silence, and in 1997 the album Kamikaze; these releases were supported by tours in Germany alongside Rammstein and Faith No More. Singles such as "Fall From Grace" and "UK‑USA" achieved club success, and the band’s live shows were noted for integrating live guitars with dance‑floor electronica. After Paul Cundall departed to focus on production work for acts including Moby and Sparks, the group’s activity waned, and a planned fourth album titled Geek never materialised, signalling the band’s dissolution.
