Under the musical direction of John Butt, Gardiner Professor of Music at the University of Glasgow, Dunedin Consort are an ensemble of musicians and singers based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Formed in 1995 with the name a variation of Din Eidyn, the ancient Celtic name of Edinburgh Castle, they have earned a reputation as the top performers of Scottish Baroque with performances at festivals across Europe and Canada.
They perform regularly on BBC Radio and BBC Scotland and they have had many recordings rewarded with prizes from Gramophone Magazine and at the Miden International Music Convention in Cannes, France. Bach's violin concertos and 'Christmas Oratorio' have featured on recent albums and a recording of Monteverdi's 'Vespro Della Beate Vergine 1610' was released in 2017.
