As a life-long music fan, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter, Brad Bauman, has used his solo project Mercury Teardrop, as an outlet to harness and showcase the sonic palette of the music that influenced him through several decades. The first studio offering from Mercury Teardrop, Apparitions of a Dying Moon, pays homage to the synth sounds and textures of early 80s bands like Simple Minds, Depeche Mode, Front 242, and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Mercury Teardrop’s influences combine with a love for the entire genre of Ambient Electronica, including artists like Tycho, Caribou, and Digitalism. The Album "Blinded by a Dark Star" (2020), is a sonic canvas for the contrast of dark and light. Themes of renewal and overcoming the universal challenges of the human condition are central to the album. Songs like "Noise in a Vacuum", depict the cold, harsh reality of one's existential ponderings, while transporting the listener to somewhere not rooted in reality. Recent singles, Nemesis, featuring Elektroterapi, and Abyss, mark a venture into new territory and offer a nod to the underground and industrial sounds of artists like Nine Inch Nails and Kidneythieves.
