Get to know me Key to Tha City, I’m originally from Memphis, TN, now in tha Bay Area. I started dabbling with music around tha year of 2008, which really consist of basically just writing a lot of music an getting tha gist composing a song. I didn’t jump right out there like everyone else you may see. I didn’t fully release my first full project until 2017.
Getting into music was really one of tha best things for me to be honest. I come from a family of songwriters An for years growing up, I was finding what my calling was, which lead to sports, different sorts of activities you probably get tha deal. I wasn’t wanting to do music although it was at my finger tips, I was trying to be different, find something that said (ME). Around my teenage years I begin to notice tha crowd I was around, was all into music. So I figured, what tha hell...
Tha background of music I come from is tha ol’school era. Funky, soul, classical etc. I had to find what best fits me within being surrounded around such good music. It wasn’t hard knowing which genre of music I wanted to go for, tha hard part was being good/best at it. Growing up I did hang more towards hip hop/rap vibes because it was what I liked.
Coming from me, you can expect to actually hear a different sound, unique word play an just me riding tha beat, while you just vibe out to it. One thing I wanted to do was really create something that isn’t round nor has been heard before. You won’t even feel like your getting a major artist or big rapper vibe from me. My style of even listening to music is pretty much different.
I come from listening to so much hip hop an rap such as your ERIC B., RAHKEEM, RUN DMC ,SLICK RICK, DOUGY FRESH, to NAS, JADAKISS, JAY-Z, BUN B an PIMP C, 8ball & MJG, ROOTS, to GUCCI MANE, YOUNG JEEZY, JODY BREEZE, ACE HOOD, BOOSIE, WEBBIE, ALLSTAR STARLITO etc.
I cherish my first project (EP) KEY TO THA CITY. Which is all solo, everything paid for, an yet alone I own it. As of tha ending year of 2018, I did release another project (ALBUM) KEY x BG, which is again a solo project, only different, I actually had tha chance to collaborate with a producer from overseas, that’s why you get (an) BG on tha title. That was a dope experience itself.
I e done a number of shows to start me out with my career as an artist, but tha most I’m proud about is my first show in San Jose, Ca. I had tha chance to collaborate with one of tha hottest singer ms on a single that has now been performed for tha Children’s Hospital. I have been to one of tha biggest music festivals (SXSW)’18, being there really let me know music is for me, just being around major artist An fitting in like it was nothing.
As of 2019 be on tha look out for BLACKDREAM an me (KEY TO THA CITY) on our collab project coming this summer, a lot of hot videos an more being done as well. Stay tuned.
