Daniel Michael Milner, known professionally as Dan Milner, was born on March 27, 1945, in Birmingham, England. He was an American folk singer and musician of traditional Irish songs. He was raised by musical parents who taught him a broad range of Irish national songs. His early influences included Joe Heaney, Margaret Barry, Ewan MacColl, Dominic Behan, and The Clancy Brothers. In 1977, he co-founded the group The Flying Cloud, which played at the Philadelphia Folk Festival and recorded an eponymous LP for Adelphi Records. Milner released several albums, including Irish Ballads & Songs Of The Sea (1998), Irish In America (2001), and Irish Pirate Ballads And Other Songs Of The Sea (2009) with Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, which received two INDIE nominations. He passed away on September 27, 2023.
