Evolving from badly playing blink-182 and Muse covers with crappy guitars and amps in a small studio apartment to a full-fledged emo punk-infused Shoegaze band making waves in the Guatemalan Indie music circuit and on the nacent Shoegaze scene online, Failing Exploration rose from the ashes of lead singer's Jose del Carmen previous project to become a leading force in the modern Shoegaze revival scene and in January 2024, Failing Exploration officially became an AWAL artist.
Jose del Carmen (Vocals/Guitar) wanted to start a band back in 2017, and joined forced with guitarist Kellian Valdez to accomplish this, the two looked for members for almost two years to no success. Del Carmen then moved to Guatemala City for work where he began his solo project, Valdez re-joined him up until the recording of the band's debut album but departed the group in 2024. The band's current line up consists of Del Carmen in Vocals/Guitar, Sebastian Lemus (Lead Guitar) and Julio Chavez (Bass Guitar) with the addition of occasional live drummer Diego Delgado
After quietly remixing and remastering their entire catalog and releasing it under the name "The Broken Fingers Blues" for free on Bandcamp, Failing Exploration then doubled down with the release of their single "Tunnel Decompression", which established them as a force to be reconned with in the Shoegaze scene.
Throughout 2023, Failing Exploration retreated into the studio to record their debut album "St. Nick's Gates", a concept album and Rock Opera about a young man who departs from his religion, only to be rejected by the rest of his family and friends in the process and his subsequent downward spiral. Mixed and mastered by Deafheaven's Chris Johnson. The album is already poised to become The Wall for Gen Z.
In January 2024, Failing Exploration officially became an AWAL artist and announced their debut album following a string of single releases, which included a cover of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" with fellow Shoegazers Twelve Days In June.
