Victor Marlborough Silvester, born on February 25, 1900 in Wembley, Middlesex, England, was a dancer, writer, musician, and bandleader. He began his career as a dancer, winning the first World Ballroom Dancing Championship in 1922 with Phyllis Clarke. After marrying Dorothy Newton shortly thereafter, Silvester became a founding member of the Ballroom Committee of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) and published Modern Ballroom Dancing in 1927, which became a best-seller. In 1935, recognizing a lack of suitable dance records, he formed his own band, Victor Silvester and His Ballroom Orchestra, known for its distinctive sound and strict tempo recordings. The orchestra's first record, "You're Dancing on My Heart", sold 17,000 copies. Throughout the 1930s to the 1980s, Silvester released numerous albums and achieved significant chart success with over 75 million records sold. Silvester passed away on August 14, 1978.
