Christoph Göttsch, known professionally as Malente, is a German DJ and producer. He began his musical career in 1997, releasing two albums and several singles of sample-based indie-pop with German rapping under the name Gautsch. In 1999, he transitioned to electronic music, releasing his debut album The Spirit Of Malente on Düsseldorf's Unique Records. Throughout the early 2000s, Malente released a series of EPs and singles, including "I Sell Marihuana" and "Bring That Lead Back". He also collaborated with various artists such as Norman Cook's Southern Fried Records, A-Trak's Fool's Gold, and Steve Aoki's Dim Mak Records. Malente has delivered remixes for notable artists including Armand Van Helden, Moonbootica, Audio Bullys, Bob Sinclar, and Larry Tee.
