Preparing two new amazing singles you will love!! THÉLÈME with Blondine Morisson and DESCOMPASSO with Sérgio Reze !!
Joel is a singer-songwriter currently playing a magical strange guitar called sazouki, a giant mandolin invented by a luthier in France.
Joel was born in Brazil and lives in France. The groove and the harmonies from his native country are always present in his music. He recorded two albums in Brazil both produced by his music partner and great musician Swami Jr. who among other things was the music director of the Buena Vista Social Club.
Joel write songs with different atmospheres - mellow bossa nova, energetic samba, introspective folk song, tribal hip-hop, classic latin rock and so on. A few things though are prevalent. Sincerity, musical quality and good vibes!
He has recorded songs in Portuguese, French, Spanish and Japanese.
In some of the singles Joel also plays bass, kalimba and keyboards.
In the two albums recorded in Brazil Joel played mandocello and mandolin.
The first album, Canções, had many special guests including the awesome guitar player Chico Pinheiro and the great Portuguese singer Eugénia Melo e Castro. Canções has a a traditional Brazilian flavor. The second one, Labirinto, has a more specific color, blending a Bossa Nova quartet (Tiago Costa, Swami Jr, Sergio Reze and Joel) with a string orchestra.
Besides singing his own compositions, Joel also makes original arrangements for songs from various great songwriters. He covered Chico Buarque, Jimi Hendrix, Tom Jobim, Cole Porter, Georges Brassens and many others.
These two last years Joel's been working on different singles, each being a different project. Sometimes he is doing them all alone, sometimes with other musicians in Brazil. Over there Joel has a number of friends that are musical partners as well as graphic artists who work on the covers. Music and friendship go together!
