North London-based British-Bengali-born Surya Sen’s uniquely diversified sonic palate has fast become the key to his unparalleled appeal as an electronic producer and rapper. His undeniably varied depth of technical talent stems from a love of ‘90s sampling culture, inspired by the likes of J Dilla, Large Professor & Pete Rock.
Surya takes his name from Bangladeshi revolutionary Surya Sen, who led the armoury raid against the British Empire to campaign for independence in India. He retains inner-lying importance around his cultural roots inspired by how his namesake took it into his own hands to be heard by the world.
Surya has solidified his growing reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting and talented up-and-coming exports. Features with Mixmag, NME, The Guardian, Clash Magazine and several others have only bolstered his reputation as a refreshingly relevant and intriguing prospect. It’s easy to see why Surya’s engrossing musical persona has become such an in-demand concept.
Away from the studio, Surya is steadily carving out a pleasantly tangible presence among music lovers. Performances at Dialled In Festival and All Points East, appearing alongside the likes of Yung Singh, Ahadadream and Joy Anonymous, have given the world its first glimpses of his limitless creativity and ever-refining sense of singularity.
Surya Sen looks to the future with several hotly anticipated projects on the horizon, including his forthcoming album and some very special collaborations.
