Ernesto Baffa, born on August 20, 1932, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was a conductor, composer and bandoneon player known for his contributions to tango music. He began studying music at a young age under teachers Francisco Sesta and Marcos Madrigal. Baffa's professional career started with the orchestra of Héctor Stamponi in 1948, followed by a stint with Horacio Salgán's ensemble from 1953 onwards. In 1959, he joined Aníbal Troilo's orchestra, where he remained for nearly 15 years. Throughout his career, Baffa collaborated with various artists and formed notable groups such as the Baffa-Berlingieri duo with Osvaldo Berlingieri and the Baffa-De Lio quartet with Ubaldo De Lio. He released numerous albums, including Señero in 1978 and Color de Tango in 1979. Baffa received the Konex Award Diploma of Merit in the Tango Ensemble in 1985 for his work in tango music and was declared a Illustrious Citizen of Buenos Aires in 1992. He passed away on April 11, 2016.
