Born in Clarendon and raised in Cassia Park, Kingston, Jamaica, Paranoid roseto stardom in the 1990’s as part of Ya Man Music Group with label mates Lavaska and Tarrus Riley. Some of their popular hits include “It’s Better This Way”, “Smoke In The Wind”, Barber’s Chair”, “Brooklyn”, and “Damn, I Messed Up”. At the height of his career in 2000, Paranoid walked away from the music industry.
On November 20, 2020, 20 years later, he returned with a soulful, infectious, Reggae Single “Above and Beyond”, a song written with his intention of spreading the pleasures of pop-reggae music to a global audience. The song addresses the struggles everyday working-class people face in providing for the ones they love.
Since then he has released two singles: “Fragrance”, a song that gave the fans an opportunity to connect with the artist as he provided them with music that uplifts the spirit and gives hope while paying tribute to women worldwide, and “Mary Jane” which is a metaphor that alludes to the healing powers of Marijuana as well as the nostalgic feeling of missing a loved one.
There is nothing as awesome as a vision whose time has come. For Paranoid, the time has come! Writing music is the medium for the captivatingly chic vocal delivery of his message. His writing style is powerful and in his own words, “I dig deep within myself to produce passionately astounding and melodious expressions." His style is a mixture of cultures and is best described with a little tweaking of the Jamaican motto, "Out of many one music." His music has no shelf life nor boundaries hence there's no limit to it. He further states, "Music is spiritual, it's about the feel, it has to be real." “The time is now, the world needs this music you know, so I had to return to give the people what they need.”
Paranoid is very versatile and has been compared to Peter Tosh. Burning Spear and Jimmy Cliff. His unique writing style has enabled him to obtain international recognition and he is one of the most sought-after lyricists by producers who are eager to have him bless their production with his creativity.
Paranoid’s first love is for Reggae Music but he is not constricted to just one genre. His versatility along with the depth and quality of his songs is the driving force that keeps him at the top of his game.
