In more than a decade of existence, Hermetic Delight has already been through several musical cycles and identities. Throughout its releases (three EPs, one album), the band from Strasbourg progressively came to enrich its post-punk signature sound with pop references and avant-garde intentions.
The trio is formed by Zeynep Kaya, a Turkish vocalist originated from the feminist / punk scene of Ankara who moved to Strasbourg to pursue opera singing, jazz and improvised music, the drummer and dancer Delphine Padilla and Atef Aouadhi, self-taught musician and also bass player in noise-pop Californian band Crocodiles.
The band’s first full-length format sees the trio collaborating with renowned musicians such as Charles Rowell (Crocodiles) and UK virtuoso guitarist / vocalist Anna Calvi. Released just before the pandemic in 2020, F.A. Cult was critically acclaimed by European critics, and allowed the band to widen up its musical horizons in multiple directions, resulting in a certain kind of avant-pop.
Hermetic Delight is definitely back in 2023 with a series of singles to be released on October Tone (FR) and The Animal Farm (UK), and will play one of England’s most significant indie rendez-vous : The Great Escape Festival in Brighton.
