Hip-Hop has undoubtedly become King of the world’s melting pot. Hip Hop culture has been a canvas of pain for the masses globally and has been a rallying cry that depicts the struggle of the Hard Knock Life. The atmosphere of NYC reeks of grind and hustle and the energy of the city captivates you to rise. New York has always been the conduit to ignite the powder keg of artists who continue to erupt from that match. The simmer from that smoke fused its ash from MarriDon’s DNA in Jamaica where it latched onto the young Phoenix.
Shamarri Williams aka MarriDon, is not just a hip-hop artist, he refuses to be stuck in that one dimensional saturated box. The diversity and culture from his upbringing can be heard throughout his lyrics. MarriDon’s environment was the landscape; and his lyrics became his “message ” for so many like him navigating the challenges of survival. The days of stereotypical rappers and what they’re supposed to represent are open to interpretation thanks to artists like J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar.
Music was already in MarriDon’s DNA, with familial relations to Jimmy Cliff, Beenie Man and Jahcure. Surrounded by relatives involved in the music industry in some capacity, it was a natural rite of passage for that DNA to exchange hands to his. Although music raised and fueled him, MarriDon’s authenticity is what will allow him to dictate his own lane because he has taken steps that has led him to come full circle into his own.
Growing up in a landscape of oppression can be damaging to a young mind. MarriDon received inspiration and was molded from musical idols Bob Marley, Nipsey Hustle, and Vybz Kartel. In his music, you will always find an authentic message in real time because music and writing has always been a release of a myriad of emotions that accompany coming of age in a climate of despair. MarriDon’s goal is to make music for the masses that not only understand the struggle but understands the realisms that accompany them.
MarriDon survived a shooting that the doctors said that he should not have. That divine intervention has allowed him to be here, still standing and it’s something he doesn’t take lightly. He describes himself as the broken child that GOD fixed due to his faith.
MarriDon is community oriented and often volunteers at soup kitchens and loves to give back to the kids as often as possible.
MarriDon is currently working on new songs for his upcoming EP and building his catalog
