Alex Montembault grew up in Pouancé, in western France, in a home filled with music: a pianist father, a cellist mother, and a grandfather passionate about musette. He started playing piano at an early age and later studied at the Conservatory, but eventually stepped away from the academic path to explore jazz and contemporary music.
Excluded from boys’ football clubs because of his assigned gender, Alex experienced rejection early on — a formative wound that would later inspire his artistic voice. As a teenager, he picked up the guitar, discovered Amadeus, animation soundtracks, and joined an arts-focused class in Angers. At 17, he moved to Tours to study jazz, began composing for theater, arranging songs, working as a freelancer, and eventually settled in Paris at 22.
Discovered on Instagram by Raphaël Hamburger, Alex was cast as Marie-Jeanne in Starmania. This iconic role marked a turning point: two intense years on tour, demanding vocal work, and strict stage discipline — but above all, a personal revelation. Marie-Jeanne became a mirror. Through the role, Alex found his voice, his confidence, and the desire to write his own songs.
His music blends raw honesty with diverse influences: French chanson (Gall, Sanson, Berger), 70s prog rock (Kansas, Toto), jazz, and experimental pop (Saya Gray, Iliona).
Between introspection, a rich musical heritage, and a desire to connect, Alex is carving out a unique path — rooted in tradition and fully engaged with the search for meaning and freedom in today’s world.
