Piero Bruno Hugo Fontana, known professionally as Hugo del Carril, was born in 1912 in Buenos Aires and became a seminal Argentine tango singer. He began his musical journey at fifteen, where he performed in tango choruses. He then joined the Trío París before he adopted his stage name. In 1937, his performance of the song "Tiempos viejos" solidified his professional ascent and gained national acclaim. Throughout his career, he collaborated with figures such as Tito Ribero and recorded iconic works, which included the 1949 version of “Marcha Peronista." While he was a prolific performer during the mid-20th century, his legacy was preserved through numerous posthumous collections, such as Serie de oro from 2005, El día que me quieras from 2005, and Los mejores tangos from 2008. He was recognized with the Konex Award in 1985 for his impact on popular music. Hugo del Carril passed away in 1989.
