Peter Ryan is a jazz fusion artist from Ireland. Primarily a guitar player his style incorporates a traditional jazz style and aesthetic; with a modern tinge. A true offspring of the self-taught modern guitarist, coming from the days before YouTube and Wifi, gaining knowledge from a wide variety of sources, be it seeking tuition from peers, to popular interactive tuition from magazines like Guitar Techniques and listening to records trying to emulate his favorite plays from Wes Montgomery to Jimi Hendrix and David Gilmour; all paved the way for his unique take on modern Jazz Guitar Playing. Also largely from years of playing as a live session player, an eclectic genre list spanning from Reggae; Lovers Rock, Traditional Irish; Celtic DADGAD guitar playing to even Metal.
After a variety of recording and touring projects with various bands, he then pursued a BA in Music at University College Cork, majoring in Jazz and Jazz Performance. He also holds certificates in Music Management and Sound. Over the last four years he made a big move from his beloved life and fun times in Cork City to his home town, also in Co. Cork. The last year and a half of which brought a new studio setup and a lot of time spent Recording, Mixing and Mastering his latest project 'Out On A Theme".
2022 sees its release; a debut collection of home studio recordings, offering a unique listening experience that could be nothing but a fusion of his eclectic career journey and his favorite playing styles, like that of jazz giants Kurt Rosenwinkle, Pat Metheny, George Benson, John Mc Laughlin and John Scofield. As the name suggests, Out On A theme sees each track using an opening theme as a spring board for Outside Modern Jazz Guitar Improv nestled in the jazz fusion genre. To put it simply; Out On A Theme incorporates a traditional jazz style and aesthetic; with a modern tinge. This release is an important milestone for him and emblematic of his life experiences and musical journey spanning many years, culminating in this 20 track collection. The album has a very live and organic feeling throughout. It is exciting and thought provoking, sensitive at times, but is largely modern Jazz Fusion improv.
